Building 40 Inclusive Campuses
We’re asking for your support to help fund our transformational strategy aimed at building 40 Inclusive Campuses at colleges across the country. We’re living in an unprecedented moment in many ways:
1.)The number one reason college athletes enter the transfer portal is their mental health. Over 80% of athletes do not feel comfortable coming out to the coaches or teammates. And over 50% of undergraduates report feeling lonely.
2.)A broken NIL system is disproportionately benefiting football and basketball players doesn’t invest in athletes wishing to use their platform for social change.
3.)Anti-DEI laws, legislation and rhetoric are resulting in unparalleled rollbacks of DEI funding and programs at colleges and universities.
Each of these forces discourages investments in or attention paid towards building cultures of allyship, inclusion, and belonging. Despite the growing investments being made in athletics, there is a growing deficit of athlete connection, belonging, and well-being.
We seek to change this reality. Starting next year, Athlete Ally will embark on a new strategic plan geared toward catalyzing change on college campuses - and by extension - the communities and networks influenced by collegiate athletics. As an independent nonprofit, we have the ability to invest in the athletes and shape the cultures in which they exist in a more significant and equitable way.
Through this approach, we are democratizing our education and advocacy efforts to equip and uplift the individual athletes who care about creating a more inclusive space on their teams and on their campuses.
